Ways to keep fleas to a minimum. ?

I have fleas in my house. Not very many adults from what I see. I vacuum as much as I can and I made an apple cider vinegar spray to spray on the 2 ferrets 2 cats and the habitat.I also wash the fuzzies with flea shampoo. If this isn't enough to keep them on the DL until I get flea medication( waiting for my vet to contact and don't know how long it will be) what else works?
