Dilemma between one or two cats?

I'm adopting an Egyptian Mau from a breeder and was wondering if he would benefit from having another cat around. I'm thinking he would, but something concerns me about that. If I get two cats to dote on each other while im gone for the day, does that mean they wouldnt be affectionate towards me and just ignore me when im home? Im afraid that they wouldnt give me back the same amount of affection as if I had just one cat around. Although the idea of 2 cats is great, I just cant help but worry they would just pay attention to each other and not show any love towards me. Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks!
